Portuguese metre gauge
27th April 2005

A number of pictures of the extensive Portuguese narrow gauge system around Oporto which I came upon by chance in the summer of 1974. This marvellous system was steam powered at the time and many services were hauled by Henschell 2-8-2's and Mallet 0-4-4-0 tanks. Today part of the line has been converted to standard gauge and forms the Oporto excellent Metro system
